Champions League Wednesday 2nd Leg Review

Real Madrid 1 Roma 2

Real Madrid came into this game with a lot of injuries to key players such as Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and suspension for Sergio Ramos. They are, however, were prompted by the return of Robinho and Pepe, but ultimately paid for the lack of creativity in the middle of the park and lack of physical presence in advance.

Roma on the other hand is full of pick up and played a clever game negates any space in any real and causes its own problems with Alberto Aquilani were outstanding in the first half. He had two great efforts, the first of which ricocheted from the beams with Iker Casillas won all over, and the other in seconds, forcing Casillas into a very smart save.

Francesco Totti was not at his showy best, but had the ball brilliantly for his teammates to join in the attack especially Simone Perrotta, who is selfless, run, play typifies the way Rome.

Real Madrid did not create many chances, but those things were not in vain was Robinho and Julio Baptisa as they both should have hit the target when presented with golden opportunities. Baptista did not hit the bar with a brilliantly taken free kick.

Pepe gave the marching orders for a second yellow card when he knocked Mirko Vucinic in the immediate vicinity of his penalty area.

Roma struck the first blow when Rodrigo Taddei rose to head in a great cross from Max Tonetto in the 73rd minute. Raul has responded with a typically cool finish after being put through by Guti in the 75th minute, but it is clearly in the background position.

real amazing they played better with 10 men than they were with 11 and Raul, the 2 times almost got his side ahead, but it is impossible to first Juan then headed a free-kick. Roma is in the game sewn when Christian Panucci free kick was missed Fabio Cannavaro, but he met a very impressive Vucinic to make it 2-1 in the night and 4-2 on aggregate.

Greek judge, one must say it was way too nervous and reserved player, sometimes unnecessarily and never really given the opportunity to play stream. Roma would not worry too much about it and will be looking forward to the quarter-final draw Friday week.

Chelsea 3 Olympiakos 0

Chelsea had a very comfortable ride to the quarter as most people thought it would be Michael Ballack headed a Frank Lampard cross before the 6th minute. Lampard to help a simple goal when the goalkeeper spilled Ballack's shot, and the third in 2 minutes with halftime Salomon Kalou himself 3-0 from another goalmouth scramble.

Porto 1 Schalke 0 (Schalke win 4-1 on penalties)

Manuel Neuer was the best goalkeeper screen anyone in this year's Champions League last night as the three huge saves in the match, and then another great goalie in the shootout to display. Ironically, just went down to 10 men they start playing some good stuff when Jorge Fucile was harshly sent off for a high challenge Halil Altintop. Four minutes later, Lisandro Lopez rotation and scored the best goal of the night and had to be overcome in this new form as he inspired the hit the roof of the network left the goalkeeper floundering.

Ricardo Quaresma really should have put Porto ahead in extra time but left all alone with the Neuer, he could not make up your mind what he wanted to do and at the end of his attempt saved by Neuer. In the shootout, as expected, Schalke scored all of his while the Neuer saved from Bruno Alves and Lisandro Lopez put Schalke in the Champions Cup quarterfinals for the first time in its history.
