Efficiency Before Renewables = Function Before Fashion

Convenience is rarely sexy, and so goes the state of the industry energy efficiency as a nice guy in a bar full of sleek solar and wind powered charmers. Neighbors rarely notice when you save money on energy bills through better insulation and control devices, but can not wait to ask about your shiny solar panels and wind turbines whirring elegant. In a culture where keeping up with the Joneses is a religion, it saves money and helps the environment by subtle as your assets more efficiently is just no more flashy sex appeal green technology projects. However, the recession has brought a new sense of humility, home, green, consciously or not, 2011 will be a year of energy efficiency!

government is trying to do their part. It looks like the long-awaited Homestar legislation will eventually pass in Q1 2011 and to encourage the house to take a hard look at where they can 'Go Green' by making their homes more energy and water efficient, but it's hard to know whether the aggressive discounts will entail have more meaning than its impact on the largely ignored by government incentive programs that flopped getting home to take action in 2009-2010. It seems like no matter how hard the government pushes to encourage green practices less flashy, ego, more visible projects, renewable energy asset vanilla building envelope improvements to the table more attractive ROI.

I hear versions of this every day from frustrated energy efficiency auditors and contractors ". I'm all for solar panels and any other types of renewable energy sources, but no sense of good pumping energy into leaky buildings" At the risk of alienating our friends in the solar business, we tend to agree.

, however, it did not matter to the effectiveness of pro-and anti-renewable energy sources. That would be awful from the base. We hope that 2012 is the year of renewable ... integrated into a new efficient buildings.
